Confined spaces are areas that are not designed for continuous human occupancy and have limited means of entry or exit. Every California employer must establish, implement and maintain a written Confined Space Program if there are spaces under its control that meet the definition of a confined space. The requirements for establishing, implementing, and maintaining an effective written program are contained in Title 8 of the California Code of Regulations, Sections 5156 – 5159. This model program will aid in complying with these standards and implementing industry best practices.
